So I brought my prescription in right at 9 am this morning. The pharmacy staff member was already irritated and I should have known this was going to be an event right then and there. She proceeds to tell me that it will take a very very long time if I plan on waiting on my prescription. I advised her that I would be more than happy to come back later on to pick it up. She cut me off and said “It will be ready after 5pm”. 8 hours really to fill one little prescription of 28 pills?? Ok whatever that is fine. I came back to CVS at 6pm only to find that it was never put in at all. I then was told it will take an additional 30 minutes to fill. REALLY!! They gave no apologies, nothing. I hate it here. I get it your under staffed, but this is very unprofessional.By Shavon Jones (3 months ago)I go to this cvs pharmacy because it is the closest for my mom who is a stage 4 cancer patient. Today we had the unwelcome pleasure of being turned away not once but twice. The first time was because my ID was expired. I got my mom up in the pain she is in to go to the pharmacy to get her prescription. Sat in the drive thru before 9pm with someone in front of us. Get to them after 9 and because the guy in front refused to move out the line now she has to be in pain an additional day. They claimed the drawers lock at 9 when in reality they have to count out their drawer and just don’t want to stay at work any longer. Attempted to tell my mom they can transfer the prescription to a 24 hour pharmacy without checking what the prescription is. Which happens to be a strong dose pain med to which she had to tell them which is not transferable. This isn’t the first incident we have had there. Wish the staff could receive customer service training and maybe put better measures in place where you block off the lane after the last car at closing time. It’s not right for people to be waiting and then to not get the service they waited for.By Dt. Kim Malone (7 months ago)I agree that the store is very unstaffed and you will have a longer than usual wait time, but my experience with the staff has always been pleasant. Shout out to Harry, who despite being swamped kept a smile on his face and was patient with all the customers. Hopefully corporate will find more workers to help.By Stephanie Ratcliffe (2 months ago)I wish I could give this CVS Pharmacy location a negative 10. Please skip over this location to avoid a horrible and unnecessary shopping experience. The employees lack any type of customer service there is and needs to desperately be retrained. They’re rude, unprofessional and are a poor representation of what I know CVS to be. The store is filthy and unorganized. And did I mention how inept and incompetent the employees are? My first and definitely last visit here. So Thankful their are other CVS Stores I can go to where exceptional customer service is given 🙂 As for this location, it needs be shut down all together to save shoppers from the headache of dealing with them.By Jacqueline C. (4 months ago)They never have anything ready on time always waiting for refills that’s auto refills and waited almost 6 to 7 hours and still wasn’t ready that’s some bull🤬🤬🤬🤬now they are temporary close been close going on two weeks smh!!! 🤦🏽♀️ Why we have to decided on stars ⭐️ when they post don’t have any negative minus stars ⭐️ up here” we are up here to base on what we all have experience with this so call pharmacy!!! – Negative 1 Million for me😡😡😡By Shunnita Winborne (a month ago)

This is normally a great Pharmacy. Seems to me that they would have back-up manual systems for when their internet is not operational… Today I went to collect prescriptions that had already been filled and paid for.. Cox was down and I could not be helped. Why wouldn’t they have a manual system as back-up?? Write the RX # down and allow the customer to sign for it. Then manually input the pick-up when internet is restored.. What if we have a real shutdown that lasts for days?? Staff is very kind, helpful and generous. 3 stars ONLY because dual systems should be the norm in businesses like this, that provide necessary items for survival.By Georgina Miller (6 months ago)Pharmacy Techs need to be better trained in Customer Service and in the Rules of Medication Disbursement. REA JEAN was extremely RUDE and insinuated that my 19 yr old College daughter was using a Fake ID when getting the Generic Brand of Sudafed. Started questioning her on all the information on her ID, and said that you need to be over 21. The male behind the counter told her it was 18 and to give her the Medication. Wow! Really! Train your people, or don’t have them in that position!By Carin Kocher (5 months ago)This is the worst pharmacy on planet earth. If you value your health and well being, avoid this location. The line had 15 people for 2 hours and the staff is completely incompetent.By Logan Cooley (3 months ago)I came into this store on Thursday and I must say I had a fantastic experience. I was having a hard time finding multiple products because my sister was sick. The employee Jake made my trip a lot less stressful. He walked me to every aisle I needed and presented a quality not a lot of employees have. He helped me remember his name by saying Jake from CVS not State Farm! Such a wonderful young man and great customer service! 👍🏽By Stephanie Ann (7 months ago)Horrible pharmacy. If their system isn’t down, they’re making careless mistakes that cause huge delays, giving inconsistent information, will tell you your script is ready but have you waiting an hour or longer when you go to pick it up. Nasty attitudes too. Avoid this place.By Zuri McLeod (4 months ago)

That’s it for our list of the best CVS in Portsmouth VA! If you have any arguments or additional information, please leave a comment. We love to hear from our readers too!
CVS is the worst pharmacy I have ever dealt with. No matter the location or state they are horrible. First problem I had with them was in middle Georgia when my wife went to pickup my prescription. Prior to that CVS sent me a text saying my prescription was ready over an hour ago. My wife waited in-line till it was her turn and she gave them my info and a woman with pink hair told her that there is nothing listed here for pickup nor was a prescription sent in. She stepped out of line and called me while she was still near the pharmacy, I called they pharmacy and they told me they had nothing for me. I explained how CVS sent me a text stating my prescription was ready and she needed to look again. She put me on hold unaware my wife was still there and could hear everything. Well, the woman who I was taking to told the pharmacist that I was “so annoying.” The pharmacist picked up the phone and I explained the situation again and apparently the woman with pink hair I was talking to was looking at the wrong profile. Apparently, I am an annoying customer even thou I was right and tried to explain myself to them in a calm, adult way. When my wife came home and told me what the pink haired woman said, I called CVS and filed a complaint which was probably swept under the rug, because I never received a call back from corporate like the CVS manger promised I would.
Second major problem I had was about 6 months later when a prescription was sent to them at 11am. I called them at 3pm to get the status and I was told it wouldn’t be ready till 6pm. I explained that it was important that I get it as soon as possible and I was told they will get it rushed through as fast as they could. I called back at 6pm to which I was told it wouldn’t be ready till 7. I went to the pharmacy 15 minutes past 7 only to be told it still wasn’t ready but they will have it filled within 20 minutes. Half hour later I am called up to the pharmacy only to be told they are out of my medicine. I explained I needed it tonight and they found a cvs over a half hour away that had it. When I got to that cvs I had to wait in line for over a half hour and they still didn’t have my medicine ready. I was told by the previous pharmacist that she would explain how I waited all day for this to be filled as the second pharmacist would rush it and fill it immediately. Now, this medicine of mine comes preboxed so all they have to do is label it. I did not get home till after 10pm.
Third major problem I had with CVS was went I dropped off a prescription and it took them 2 weeks to fill because they didn’t have it in stock. I didn’t have it transferred to another CVS because they promised it was on its way every day I called them to get the status.
I am done with CVS and now I am happy with Walgreens.
It is absolutely impossible to get someone in the front of the store. The phone # listed his straight to the pharmacy. HOW IN THE WORLD CAN I SPEAK TO SOMEONE OTHER THAN THE PHARMACY?
What happened to simply pressing 0? It is so complicated. For this reason I would give them a 0 over and over. The employees are great but the phone issue should never be this way. 😖😖😖
This isn’t my usual CVS but the prescription I needed wasn’t in stock so I had it transferred to this location. I’m actually really happy that I did. This location is so much nicer than my usual. Plus, when I arrived, I had to hand a note to the man who helped me at the pharmacy because I currently have lost my voice. He was very kind about it and when he handed me my medication, he even wrote on the note “FEEL BETTER :)” and put it in the bag with my meds. It was a very simple thing but it really made my day as I’ve been really down being home sick. Definitely contemplating moving all my prescriptions over to this location.
I would give negative stars if I could because they don’t even deserve the 1. However, I will NEVER EVER do business at the CVS at 5829 High Street in Portsmouth again!! I have been a pharmacy customer for years (10+) and have been strongly upset with them before but this is a whole nother level. The pharmacy team is rude, uncaring and unapologetic when they are 9+ hours behind on filling important prescriptions like pink eye treatment or anti nausea medications for a patient who is vomiting profusely from kidney stones or antibiotics for a patient that has a severe kidney infection. They simply don’t care at all for their customers or their circumstances. Came to pick up several prescriptions for my fiancé who was running a fever and had strong vomiting for a kidney infection and kidney stones. The meds had been called in at 0805 that morning and I came straight from work at 1700 and was told to come back in two hours, stating they were behind. I explained the situation to her and asked to wait in the store for it. She told me 30 minutes and she’d call me back to the pharmacy when it was ready if I would stay in the store. I did and she never called. I went back to stand in line again for another 15 minutes, by which time it had been an hour since she told me 30 minutes. She gave me a total of $217 and told me it’s so expensive because they didn’t have his insurance information on file. They could’ve told him or me that at any point that day or when I told her I would wait. Instead I had to go home and get the info because he was passed out asleep with a fever and I couldn’t reach him over the phone. Came back and stayed in my car waiting in line, only to find out I had to come in because they won’t accept insurance info through the drive up window. I told the woman I was very upset because of the early situation and would rather stay in my car because I didn’t want to react in the store. She told me no she didn’t care about that and that I had to come in. I drove around, came in, waited in line again only to be told that it would take them another 15-20 minutes to get the prescriptions ready again and that I needed to sit down and wait. I was so furious I could not sit down so I stood next to the counter at the chairs just waiting. Again she didn’t call me back to the counter after 15-20 minutes so I approached again and finally got my prescriptions after I had to tell the woman that if I don’t get my prescriptions and get out of here they were going to have to call security. I told her I wanted to speak to a manager and she said she didn’t have one available and when I asked for the corporate number and info to call, was told they don’t have it, and I’d have to come back. Next prescription my mother went to pick up (a week later so I haven’t been able to transfer everything to another yet) was for pink eye drops and she was told they are a week behind and to come back. She again waited in store for over an hour to get the prescription for my 10 year old. I will never even step foot in that store again. For anything ever again. And I will tell everyone I know to stay away from there. Sad that I now have to be inconvenienced to move a family of 8 from that CVS pharmacy and change all of the info at all of our doctors offices but I will not put up with that behavior towards me. I will take my business elsewhere, away from CVS.
I have decided to change locations as the service at High Street is deplorable. Yesterday was my 3rd experience there and I’ve had it! I saw my doctor fax my prescription over around 11:39ish. I was traveling from Williamsburg to Portsmouth and was delayed before the tunnel, so I didn’t arrive until 12:45PM and was told the pharmacy was behind and they closed 1:30 to 2PM. I was told to return at 2:30 PM! The prescription was ready THEN, but this and 2 previous negative experiences have convinced me to transfer. I don’t care how far as long as the service is better and more professional. I overheard the clerk telling a customer they couldn’t get overtime anymore to do the things they needed to do. Is this service a work slowdown as a protest? Wouldn’t it be better to have half the staff at lunch from 1P to 1:30, then the other half 1:30P to 2P? Each time I’ve been, the line is far too long and the wait
time unacceptable! Get it together or close down! The 1.8 rating is generous!!
