By far the worst pharmacy I’ve ever experienced. Working as a pharmacy technician for over 3 years I understand the ins and out of the pharmacy. I was talked to by the pharmacy manager as if I didn’t understand what they were going through. I had a mouth procedure done, the pharmacy drive through was closed, and the line inside was down 2 isles. After waiting 35 minutes in line I was told by a Tech that my prescription wouldn’t be ready for 2 days, if they expedited it, it would be the following day. The pharmacy manager stated “this is the busiest day of the year, no pharmacy is going to have it ready the same day” I called my Dr office and had it transferred across the street to Walgreens and they had it ready by the time i drove across the street from CVS. ( Keep in mind they had 2 pharmacists, 4- 5 technicians working, more than other stores have, and they’re 3 days behind WITH THE DRIVE THROUGH CLOSED) it really seems as if they need proper training on how to run a pharmacy, and then of course customer service is a whole different topic.By Andrew Hamilton (3 months ago)They never answer the phone! This is very frustrating when you have your husband stop by on the way home from work one day knowing they won’t answer the phone. The script was one day to early to fill. It wasn’t filled the next day so I tried to call and they didn’t answer the phone. This is the usual for over a least a year! I had to drive to the location to ask them to fill the script and they say it will be another 2.5 hours. I asked the pharmacist if they do not answer the phone and he replied “We can either help those in the store or answer the phone.” There was only one car in the drive through and one or two people in the store. No excuse to not answer the phone! I will be trying to switch pharmacies. My insurance will get an earful if they only allow CVS. This was not my first encounter with the phone not being answered and rude pharmacists!By Stacey Bates (4 months ago)The pharmacy is very unorganized and unprofessional. I have called for over 3 weeks to get medication file tranferred…been on hold for over 30 minutes at a time. Pharmacy Manager answered finally to explain that the doctor must call to transfer my file and that they hadn’t done so. He further explained that they are short 2 staff…etc…all with an attitude. You staffing issues are not my issue. I demanded that my file was transferred ASAP. He took down my information. Hopefully that is it. Sheesh.By Bethany Rodriquez (3 months ago)I would give less if possible. I had to go to the store to give Good Rx information for a prescription insurance did not cover because I have called the store 6 times in the last day spending over an hour on several of the occasions and between 20 and 45 minutes on the others trying to provide the Good Rx details but they would not answer the phone leaving me remaining on hold. This went on even at 11:30 pm last night. They ignore customers. Even after telling them I had spent hours on hold unable to get thru they took the information at one line taking 20 minutes then made me wait at the end of the register line another 30 minutes behind 3 other customers that were not there when I started giving the information. They didn’t even apologize no one answered the phone but blamed management saying they cut staff hours so they run out of time to answer the phone. These actions have taken me from being all CVS years ago to paying out of pocket more money at any other pharmacy to avoid walking into a CVS because I hate the experience so much.By Jane B (a month ago)This CVS pharmacy doesn’t deserve even 1 star. I have an emergency because my nana is in so much pain, i wen’t at 7pm and they told me come back in an hour to pick up medicine.. Now, i’m back almost 8:30pm and they still don’t have the medicine ready!!! If something’s happen to my nana, i will sue this pharmacy!!! Very slow service..By Ofalyn Dela Cruz (a month ago)

I drive past about 3 or 4 pharmacies to come here because for the most part I’ve never encountered an issue. Honestly having my script filled wasn’t a problem but the gentleman (or lack there of) was egregiously rude! Alec could strongly benefit from some sort of customer service training. I don’t expect to have a full blown conversation, however I do expect some sort of salutation. Instead his greeting was “spell your last name”. I replied hello how are you, he never looked up. Just replied “I’m fine, spell your last name” and proceeded on robotically. “Date of birth, select the option on the screen.” Sir, I can read and I can articulate if I need step by step direction. If I wanted that type of interaction I’d order my script online and have them delivered. I doubt this is just an “off” day for him. He repeated this same rhetoric to multiple guests in line. If you’re not able to implement customer service you need to work else where because face-to-face isn’t going to cut it. Now as I said previously this is my first time having an issue. So I won’t go as far as saying I won’t come back, but I don’t ever want to interact with someone that crass ever again. Please keep him off of the register. Operational tasks better suited if you’re unable to give simple customer service. Say hello at minimum!By Kayla Evans (5 months ago)I’ve been using this CVS since 2009, and I used to love it. Clean, well stocked, great staff. Then around 2016-17 something happened.
Now I can never get my prescriptions on time. It’s all well and good for something like my cholesterol med, but I’ve lost track of the number of times my insulin prescription lingers in purgatory until I march up to the window and ask about it. The automated service is no help as it says the ‘script will be ready at X time, but then I never get a confirmation and when I try to call and see if it’s ready I’m on hold for over an hour and a half.
And the rest of the place has gone downhill too. I feel like I used to see multiple people working behind the counter and stocking the shelves, now there is merch strewn all over the floor, and nothing is where it’s supposed to be.
I went in one night to grab some wine for a party, couldn’t find it, so I grabbed some non-alcoholic alternative. Went to the register to pay, no one was there, so I used the self checkout. Some kind of error happened and it kept saying it needed a staff members attention. After several minutes of waiting, I went to look for someone, but couldn’t find an employee anywhere. So I just left, and got some wine at the 7-11 down the street. Real sad when the corner convince store had a more attentive staff than a drug store.
Like I said, I don’t know what happened. The “go-to” line seems to be “blame the pandemic” but I feel this place has been slipping well before that. I’ve tried to overlook some of the rough patches, but it’s been happening so often for so long that it’s just impossible to excuse anymore.
By Matthew Allen (2 months ago)I wish I could leave less than one star. I don’t like writing negative reviews because I am a business owner and I know how important they are to businesses. This CVS should not even be considered a corporate store; they should honestly be ashamed of themselves.
I spent days calling the Pharmacy at different times thinking maybe they were just busy at certain times of day. No, they just didn’t want to answer their phone calls. My daughter had a severe infection and the Dr. had already sent her refill, for which I was waiting but they never refilled it. I had to call corporate to get them to actually fill the second prescription. When I called the corporate office they told me REGARDLESS OF STAFFING they are supposed to answer the phone. The Pharmacy is required to ANSWER THE PHONE. If you can help it- PLEASE choose another pharmacy for your sanity and the health and wellness of your loved ones.By Ashley Webster (3 weeks ago)Don’t waste your time trying to call the pharmacy. I was on hold for over two hours! I hung up and called the front and spoke to the manager and she said due to short staff they will not be answering the phones in the pharmacy and if I need assistance to come in and wait in line like everyone else. She also said I can call corporate to file a complaint. So I send my husband up to the pharmacy. He said there were no cars in line and only one person waiting at the counter. That doesn’t seem very busy to me and I’m just as important as the person standing in line but I guess they would rather have sick people coming in.
This happens often with this location.
I was on hold for over an hour another time and decided to drive up there. I stayed on the phone and was able to stop for gas and snacks, wait in line , get back in my car and make it home before someone answered
Get it together cvsBy Rebecca Rowe (3 months ago)*update – recommend that you order to have prescription delivered. Completely better experience! Hard to believe it’s the same location. If you go in person, original review is accurate. They NEVER fill your prescription until you specifically request that they do so either in person or over the phone. What’s worse is that their automated phone service tells you that your prescription will be filled and ready by a certain time. DO NOT BELIEVE IT! Hours later it still won’t be filled. Once you request or complain, you have at least an hour to wait.By Dwayne Perkins (4 months ago)

That’s it for our list of the best CVS in Newport News VA! If you have any arguments or additional information, please leave a comment. We love to hear from our readers too!
Came here a little over a week ago for some cat food and a few other items and had a pretty pleasant experience, the cashier named Joyce, was very nice in helping my boyfriend and I find what aisle the cat food was located at in the store, all of the other items we needed were easy to find.
I’ve had the same issue twice, one week apart. The system was saying I had 2 insurances. The first time I paid out of pocket out of frustration. The second I was met with 100% rude and unprofessional people. I had my insurance company on the phone with them the entire time. They did not want to answer the phone for them and when they did they kept putting the rep on hold. I took my prescription to a Walgreens and everything went through with no issues. As a former Health Concierge for CVS I have no intention on ever going back to this CVS or possibly any other one. Thanks for nothing.
Your pharmacy staff was rude, unhelpful and showed unwillingness/inability to provide good customer service. Pharmacist was too overwhelmed by giving vaccines to respond well and made situation worse. CVS messed up my payment method by billing wrong rx bin after I spent over an hour getting it set up last month. Was told last month that drive thru would be fine from now on after being made to stand in line twice (drive thru then inside) that day. When I got to the window this time, after 20min wait, was told I must come inside again because the correct payment method had been dumped when insurance was billed. I understood the information could not be entered at window but employee was unwilling/unable to hand my ID and rx bin card to someone at another station even for CVS error. I was required to come inside again and stand in a longer line again. I asked to speak to management 3 times and was told the pharmacist was too busy.
While waiting in line I intercepted the pharmacist, between vaccines, and asked to skip line or leave the card to be entered while I attended my church meeting. She said, “We might loose your cards”, but still I was expected to wait for a ready drug for a second 20min. I responded to the pharmacists that it was poor CS and my business was valuable considering the money that I spent in addition to pharmacy at the store, the COVID tests, all my vaccinations, and by filling medicine that could only be filled 1 month at a time. She told me it would be fine if I took my business elsewhere.
I had no pills for the next day so I could not arrange to move my script in time. Only when I called CVS customer service and asked the store number for phone complaint (why not I was stuck in the line doing nothing) did an employee take me to the consult station to enter my information. Overall it was an additional 20 min in a second line.
I have been the lead medical person at a “doc in the box” type clinic so I understand the model for leveraging the professionals time to maximize production. Despite being as overwhelmed as this pharmacist was and dealing with unhappy people that were abusive rather than insistant; I have never blown off a client the way I was. My staff was also empowered to keep people from standing in line twice for our mistake. While the CS rep on the phone was responsive no requests were made for what would make this right. No offer of a gift card to compensate for my lost time and keep me as a client. Every place a positive CS intervention could have been made to keep my brand devotion was either missed or made worse.
If you keep treating your staff and customers this way you won’t need to worry about being too busy.
pharmacy doesn’t answer phone, wait is always ridiculous no matter what time you go. I’ve never waited 15+ minutes every time in any other pharmacy line ever in my life. I’m not sure what the hold up is but based on all the other reviews on here management should really try and address it.
They have six profiles on me and my kids. I have asked countless times to update to the correct one that has the most accurate information to no avail. They are always laughing and chatting and have customers wait for long periods of time. Some are often rude when you need to ask questions about prescription information. I am in the process of transferring to Rite Aid pharmacy. I have been with CVS for over 10 years. SMH.
