One of two emergency rooms/hospital’s in Duluth, I recently had been admitted to the hospital through the emergency room, and I had a 5 day stay that included surgery on my left hand! Drs as well as nurses are respectful, considerate, and empathic! The food is very good, for a hospital!! 🏥👍 Update the next time I went back, the nurse who was doing the vitals immediately put a label on me, which was less than pleasant, before I could even leave her area she had another patient in where I was and she was making a big scene, even though she put a label on me it didn’t change the way I felt, I told her if you have your job, and or having a bad day don’t take it out on me or any other patient!By Bob Bennett (2 months ago)I had to wait 7 hours in the lobby. The doctor only saw me for 5 minutes. In results it described me as only having a high school education. I have a college degree. I am still not well. My white count was high. He did not think to even check me for things like cellulitis and I am diabetic. He wrote in results that I did not have chest pains. I mentioned chest pains several times during the 7 hours that I was in there. My whole left arm was numb and my right arm felt broken. When they sent me home, I was so weak that I could not even climb into my son’s vehicle. He had to call a friend to pick me up in a lower vehicle. When I got home I could not even climb the stairs to my front door. I almost collapsed twice walking to my back door and my son’s friend had to grab a chair for me to sit in because my wheelchair does not fit between my house and the neighbor’s house. Last night I was so weak that I dropped my distilled water while I tried to pour it in my cpap machine. I do not have an appointment with my Regular doctor until October 17. St Lukes has really gone down hill. I do not want to wait another 7 hours to be seen but I guess I might have to try Essentia’s ER if I do not start getting better soon. I am wondering if I had a stroke because I feel so weak.By Ruby Nightingale (5 months ago)On December 28 I was at your EMOR. I arrived at 3:15 and left at 1:00, about 10 hours I sat there. The only time I left the lobby was when someone came to get me for EKg, lung xray, urine
test at nine and blood work at11. No one approached me between t hose times. No one to tell me what was going on. Nurses were apologetic . I know there is a shortage of nurses. It woud have been nice if someone could have told me what was going on, asked me if I was OK or needed a glass of water. A little compassion would have been nice. Everyone there were very unhappy. I was about ready to get up and leave at 12:00. The one bright spot in the long 10 hours was seeing Dr.WYATT. He was kind, very nice and easy to talk to. Both my son and I liked him. I think having a little more concern for the people waiting would go a long way. There is nothing faster about it at all. Should have thought about fast track to get people moving through. Instead sit for hours and hours in ER to be told waiting for a bed. My daughter took her 2 year old to urgent care, at the advice of the pediatrician. She had to take a cab, got there a little after 5 o’clock and was told they were closed. She thought you were open until 6. The front desk person was very rude to the point that my daughter was in tears. She was told to leave and she had left the car seat from the cab ride in the clinic. She tried to get the attention of someone inside to retrieve the car seat and thy ignored her. That is uncalled for to treat someone so terribly! Wow!! This makes me sick to my stomach! Wait time to see a doctor has averaged an hour to an hour and 45 minutes in the reception room. Wait time on the phone is an average 35 minutes. Linda at the front desk was the most rude and condescending healthcare employee I have met in a long time. I was taking an adult client in to be seen and she treated him like a small child and she treated me like I was making her job so much harder and spoke down to me because I didn’t have paperwork, when it is not part of my job at all and it was not needed. The client in question handles all of his own medical concerns and paperwork. Hopefully she treats people better in the future, and changes her views on people with disabilities before st luke’s get slapped with a law suit.By Jake McCauley (3 months ago)I went in because I had gotten bit my some sort of bug. i had a rash & many symptoms of nausea, throwing up for 3 days prior to my visit today with urgent care, ongoing headaches, issues with my vision, extremely fatigued, and a very foggy brain along with some confusion. the nurse I had was wonderful and very responsive to my feelings. After the nurse left the doctor came in. (L.S Prusak, MD) and she was extremely rude and short with me. When she walked into the room she never introduced herself. She walked right past me and went to her computer and had finally had said that she needed to get her computer up to take notes. I had explained to her what I was feeling and she cut me off multiple times and asked me to tell her only “one thing” that was bothering me. I listed 3 things and she looked at me very rudely and said “that was more than one thing” I was upset at that moment because I was there to get all of my issues taken care of. I fully felt like she didn’t listen to me at all and didn’t truly care about her patients or her job. Through out the entire visit she was so rude. I went to lab for some tests & came back and she gave me my results and then turned the issues from this bite into comments about my medication that I am not currently on anymore from some mental health struggles that I have had. She had stated very rude comments about how with my foggy brain and confusion that I can be checked into a faculty or the ER. i felt extremely humiliated and lot listened to. Those were just the top few things that upset me, but the entire visit with her was very uncomfortable. i was not listened to & none of my issues were resolved. Now, I have to take another day to schedule with my primary which could take days or weeks when all I needed was to be listened to & have the tests done that I had asked for. i left with no answers & no solutions. very unhappy and disappointed.By Sara Brockbank (7 months ago)Rudest medical “professionals” I have ever had the misfortune of seeing. My mother was really seen she had to stay in the hospital due to her kidneys. Staff was good the facility seemed very clean my mother was not happy with the care. But be sure when you do go in to get proper information and ask a lot of questions cuz due to the facts of all the elements of my mother I we went and left she stayed the night seen by a doctor the first day got diagnosed and was told that she was to stay longer was seen by another doctor the next day and was told she’s an excellent health and could go home right here and was unsure of why she was even in the hospital. And the doctor that was seeing the next day was texting on his phone while trying to also share what was going on with my mother so she could leave so I think maybe and very short staffed it took forever to leave my mother was complaining because she was hot just little things so be prepared ask a lot of questions or I guess go to another hospital.
The only reason I’m giving this place 1 star is because I have to leave something. It truly deserves nothing. I wouldn’t send my worst enemy to this place for a hangnail. Patient care is not important as they would like to claim, but more so how they are going to get paid.The nurses there get treated awful. Communication between doctors, admin, nurses, care managers, and family is pretty much non existent.
Our personal experience is too long to type out here but STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. Double check your online charts and results and make sure to document any conversations if you have the unfortunate luck of staying there.
If they are attempting anything to do better at this place, they are falling short to say the least- Pay your worthless admin less and give those nurses (who actually do the work) the pay and treatment they deserve.
My husband was saved by the infectious disease doctor Thompson and later the heart surgeon Mary Boylan. After the blood infection emergency open heart was done to Dave his life. The icu nurses were amazing too. Thank you.
Duluth Minnesota; 4 West. Excellent hospital. My mom is sick and was transferred several days ago from Hayward Hospital in WI. The doctors and nurses treat my mother like she’s their mother. I am allowed to stay in the same room as my Mom. I am treated with kindness and respect. I am fed and even cared for. I noticed that they all work hard and will not stop until my Mom is healed. They have a team of specialists that have run the necessary tests to diagnose my Mom. She is being treated with several antibiotics. I see the difference it is making. They took my Mom from the brink of death and are bringing her back to her old healthy self. Thank you St. Luke’s Hospital for treating my family like your family. Thank you Dr. Patel for everything, especially for allowing me to stay with my Mom all the while encouraging her to get better. In my book St. Luke’s Hospital is within the top 200 hospitals in the country! Thank you everyone at 4 West!
