  1. Staff is very friendly, prices are very reasonable and the baked good are delicious! I can only eat gluten-free and the staff was very accommodating. I would recommend this bakery for anyone visiting Pella!

  2. The best Dutch bakery west of the Mississippi. The smell is intoxicating the moment you walk in the door. There is an assortment of traditional baked goods such as cookies, Danish, coffee cakes, and donuts while also having a decent selection of Dutch style breads and cookies.

One of the most popular (and addicting) items are the cherry donut holes–a must try!

Prepare for lines out the door on Saturday mornings and around holidays.

In case you are having a hard time deciding on what to buy they also have a gift box that provides a good variety of Dutch delights.

  3. This bakery is such a special place that reminds you of the rich history of the Dutch in Pella. I love the traditional dress uniforms and all the beautiful things for sale in the shop section of the store. We usually get the sprouted whole grain bread, some danishes, a Dutch letter or two, and a cupcake for the kiddo. We visit every time we go to Iowa, and my parents (who are local) go about once a week.

  4. The young boy was very nice and package my products in 2 different boxes as I was dropping one off to family. To much to choose from. The Carmel corn is some of the best I’ve ever had.

  5. By far one of my favorite places. My wife discovered this place when she took our son to Pella to attend Central College. She brought back a bunch of different pastries.

We have since had our son bring home pastries when he come home on breaks. We also stood in line for over 30 minutes the last time we visited. We will also be ordering online (based on availability and season) since our son no longer attends college there.

Our favorites include but not limited to Dutch letters, coconut macaroons, and cream horns.

Go there…. you won’t regret it!

Nothing like stopping for old fashion chicken fried steak. The entree looked tantalizing and offered an explosion of flavors. Just the type of pick you up to get you through the day.
Stopping in for soup and salad. The veggies are fresh, colorful and simply delicious. Excellent options for a quick pick me up dinner!

Stopped in to try the delicious pot roast— yummy to my tummy. You need to try it and when you do get the full portion— the chef out did him or herself!

Come and get it! Time for dinner and there’s nothing like good old fashion tuna melt sandwich—yum!

It’s a good day for a melody of Key Lime Pie. Simply delicious!

Food was excellent! This place reminds me of village inn, Perkins, and a local diner all in one. We got the slow roasted turkey and savory pot roast, both were amazing.

A restaurant that started over 50 years ago and known for the pie has taken a major dive. Took a friend & her nursing home roommate a well deserved slice of lemon meringue pie. It’s was pathetic & anemic at best. Nothing like the old days of even a year ago. It looked 4 days old. Skimpy on meringue compared to past orders. Crust completely seperated. As for taste a very ill person was just happy to have a slice from the past. I was ready to toss it in the trash, but I wasn’t eating it.
The place needs to do better or expect doors to close before 2023 comes to a close.

My kiddos and I stopped here for the first time this Saturday morning. They seemed a little short staffed, however their service was still fantastic. Our food was quickly made and delicious (omelet and scrambler), and a great price. Our waitress Lamontaija was wonderful. Will be back again for sure!

Very nice place for pastries, baked goods, and coffee. Compared to other cities I’ve been to the prices are very fair, great quality of food and service. A popular spot, a must visit spot if your in town looking for a brunch or meeting with friends.
I tried the salmon tartine as it was highly recommended. Was impressed and satisfied. Came with half of a Large avocado as well.

I’ve had a lot of pastries, and a lot of croissants, all over the world and in France, and man, La Mie is fantastic. Get there early so you can get your pick from the vast table of fresh pastries, from various fruit danishes, to croissants (plain, chocolate, cheese and spinach, and more), and lots of others. The pastry is flakey and cracks perfectly as you might, filling your mouth with rich buttery layers. Truly great, wish I could have some every day. Great pricing too.

Best bakery in Des Moines. Incredibly well made pastries, desserts, breads, and sandwiches. I’ve liked everything on the menu so far.

Everything seems to be baked fresh the same day. Be prepared to arrive early because most of the fresh bread is sold out by mid-morning.

Decent amount of both indoor and outdoor seating. Friendly staff. Plenty of parking around the back. Be prepared to wait in line for 5-10mins on a Saturday morning at the register.

We went to La Mie bakery in Des Moines, IA. We enjoyed coffee and pastry. Excellent crispy puffs. An assortment of quiche, sandwiches, lasagna, and croissant.

I didn’t expect the place to be a sit-down. The atmosphere was lively. The line was fast. We got the caramel cheesecake, New York cheesecake, tiramisu and custard. They all tasted amazing. I would have to say the caramel cheesecake was my favorite.
