SAVE YOURSELF THE HEADACHE and drive to Sioux Falls. We have always used the ER in Sioux Falls, and have never had a bad experience.. we recently moved closer to Mitchell and had to go to the Avera ER for our toddler. I have NEVER met doctors and nurses who are so blatantly rude, and ignorant. They don’t care about you, or your children. I now understand why it is known as the “Queen of Death” by many in the area.By C S (a month ago)The care itself has been great. I have gotten labs and outpatient stuff done and had my baby there. The OB nurses are absolutely amazing and so kind. The billing department could use work, I have labs done often as I am 7 months pregnant and have always sent a check out within a week of getting the statement. They take months to get everything ran through insurance then expect you to pay your bill before they even have the statement out. I just got two statements about two weeks ago and mailed a check last week for 1/3 of the amount. They are already calling me and harassing me at work for payment.By Anonymous Panda (a year ago)ER experience- Nurses were 5 stars; Radiologist 5 stars; Dr Schaffer was a 0. She claimed my child did not cough up blood as we told her (i guess my blood stained comforter and visually seing it happen was not up to her standards) She claimed my child had anxiety instead of the actual chest pain and breathing difficulty (just because my child was tearful like anyone who nearly passed out from not breathing would be). Thank heavens we are seeing someone else in Sioux Falls. She was extremely unprofessional, rude, inconsiderate, insulting, nasty and offensive towards our family, just to mention a few. She hung up the phone on our family during a phone call when we were questioning the care being missed and overlooked. We have received wonderful patient care from other Avera facilities, top-notch-patient-comes-first-care, but never dreamed of the unacceptable treatment like we’ve had to endure from Dr. Tracey Cao. I have a serious infection that requires new antibiotics. I have Sanford insurance so I went here to see the only GP in town. I explained my situation ( just had a blizzard, can’t go to Sioux falls as the interstate is closed.) Dr Ferrie refused to see me citing time. I like to think my life is more important and it would of taken 5 mins. Unprofessional and shows a lack of interest in the well being of people. Sanford health was recommended. My initial visit was good. Smooth and very nice staff however I’m slowly finding out the behind the scenes. They neglected to tell me what in fact my insurance was covering and what it was not. (Bloodwork etc.) I went back to work on the road. I did not receive any phone calls informing me of results or what I owed. I return home to a stack of envelopes containing several bills from a collection agency totaling over a thousand dollars. No warning. No phone call. I still don’t know if there is anything wrong with me and my credit has probably tanked. I suspect my issues were stress related. However I cannot say the same for how I am treated by the receptionists. They are not very friendly to me when I arrive compared to how I see them treat other people. Also, I’m not sure why but every time I get here, I get here on time and I end up having to wait almost an hour just to have my appointment.
