5 Replies to Ames IA Urgent Care – Walk-In Urgent Care

  1. Jennifer Erbes spent a lot of time with me and was spot on with her diagnosis. I did not have the text book symptoms and I would have never guessed that it was that. I responded in 24 Hours to the medication and feeling better. The staff was professional and I could get in 1 day earlier than regular clinic appointments and was able to do so without missing work. Thank you so much.

  2. My 2 yr old fell and busted her chin open slightly. Daughter didn’t seemed too phased by it. I got it cleaned up but figured we should have it checked out and perhaps glued. Urgent care wouldn’t even see us. They are not set up to be an urgent care clinic at this time so I’d reccomend taking your business elsewhere. I was referred to emergency without even being seen when I had shared that it wasn’t an emergency situation. I was also told they can’t do stitches there in case my daughter needed them. I asked about glue even, receptionist said no rather quickly and rudely. Long story short, Ankeny has walk in urgent care clinics that have items like stitches and glue on hand. It was worth the drive for me. We got right in!

  3. Cut open my finger and went to the urgent care for treatment. Explained my situation to the secretary who spoke to me very condescendingly and did not seem to care about my injury, nor my time. She waited until the end of the conversation to tell me that this facility is by appointment only – there is absolutely nothing “urgent” about making an appointment, especially when I was bleeding and clearly distressed. The fact that it is still advertised as “urgent care” when an appointment is required is ridiculous as well as dangerous, as I had assumed I would be able to receive care in a timely manner and would have saved valuable time simply going to the hospital initially. I would never recommend this place to anyone, unless you’re willing to potentially wait hours, if not days to receive care, and would like to be rudely spoken to. Thankfully, Mary Greeley’s emergency room took care of my finger very quickly, with no disrespect from the staff; something that is evidently too much to ask for from the McFarland urgent care clinic.

  4. Took one star off because this location is by appointment only which was frustrating, but the rest of my experience was excellent. Front desk staff was friendly and the provider I saw was very attentive and actually cared about what I had to say. I have ehlers danlos syndrome which means a lot of chronic pain, because of my age I’m constantly being gaslit by doctors and I rarely get taken seriously. I was incredibly relieved to be treated like an actual patient here instead of feeling like I was being interrogated. I will ONLY be using this urgent care from now on!

  5. Took my daughter in for what we believed was a kidney stone that she passed but we wanted to rule out any other possibilities. Was told by the front desk that we had to make an appointment and that there was no walk in and there was really nothing they could do for us. I asked where an urgent care facility was and was told the ER was my option. Front desk staff was condescending. I work in the 911 system with a wife being a long time nurse. I feel I have a decent understanding of the medical system. We tell everyone to not clog the ER for other than life threatening, yet we were told the only urgent care option is the ER. Totally unacceptable attitude and use of the medical system.

Very accommodating. Squeezed us in to see our sick child, when their schedule was already booked. So grateful, but I realize this pushes back other appointments… appreciate their compassion. Have been here before, and always receive great care.

Very upset and very unsatisfied. Came here on Friday (11/08/22) knowing that a had strep throat. I was exposed to it at work and I’ve had it plenty of times to know the symptoms. The nurse gave me a lousy strep test. Didn’t push my tongue down and just shoved it back there. Didn’t even hit the back of my throat or my tonsils. I know I should’ve said something but personally I feel like I shouldn’t have to tell someone how to do their job. Of course it came back negative. Doctors pretty much told me to take ibuprofen. Even though I had white spots on my tonsils. Maybe if they took more than 5 seconds to actually look at the back of my throat they would’ve saw them. Barley looked at anything else, and didn’t even feel my throat. Not even 48 hours later my symptoms worsened. Went to a different provider in Ankeny (UnityPonit Clinic Urgent Care- Ankeny Medical Park). And guess what? They diagnosed me with strep. Wish they would actually listen and trust that I know my own body. Could’ve been avoided if they took a little bit more time with their patients. Now I’m miserable and had to miss two days of work now. Hopefully this helps someone in the future, and I’m sorry if you’ve experienced this. I know it’s not cheap going to the doctors, please go somewhere else. Also, this is not the first time I’ve been brushed off like this. Learned my lesson this time around.

I took my daughter there for a sprained ankle. All of the staff we encountered were pleasant and professional. The doctor even reviewed the x-rays with us to explain what she looked for and what they showed. Great experience with their care.

I had an appointment, the doctor then proceeded to refuse to see me when I had a temp of 102.3 and a red swollen eye with green stringy goop. The doctor then only wanted to give me about 10 min when he noticed I was upset and packing my bag to go. At the receptionists desk. Doctors like you are the reason I do not go and get help when I know I need it. Needless to say I refused and went elsewhere.

Ty at the front desk is VERY unprofessional. First tries to tell me my insurance cards aren’t valid because 24 is the cut off to be covered by my parents insurance. I inform him no it’s age 26. I also inform him that my mother works for McFarland, and I’m covered through that. Long story short things got straightened out, but it was a process. The nurse was nice and helpful, though. Understood my concerns, and was quick but personable. The doctor was also very pleasant and genuine. Once I got past the front desk, I was in and out quickly.
