Yesterday I needed antibiotic prescription filled for painful eye infection. Went to pick up an hour after sent in. Was told that it would be “expedited” and to come back in an hour. Had to get a replacement antibiotic later that afternoon. This time called to find out when prescription would be ready. Sat on hold for a half hour and realized they would not answer the phone. Went back and found that prescription was not ready. Waited 40 minutes before going back to window to find that they had failed to call my name out when order was ready. Throughout the wait a loud speaker is broadcasting “One call for Pharmacy” over and over, about every two minutes. That plan must come from corporate, because no one at this pharmacy is answering the phone. Employees are polite and dealt with frustrated customers who expect that their prescription will be waiting for them patiently. Bottom line: If you need your prescription, don’t bother to call, go there and tell them you are waiting so that they call your name (maybe) in a half hour. Or try to find a better pharmacy.By Dorothy Smith (5 months ago)I’ve been moving my CVS prescriptions as they expire, but still have one. Requested a refill, was told it would be two days, checked after three days and it still wasn’t ready. The fourth day a robocall told me to come and get it.
After a long wait to turn into the parking lot from Barracks Rd I found the drive-through is closed because of staffing shortages. Went inside, long line at the pharmacy window. Waited. While I was there three people were sent away because their prescriptions were not ready at the promised time. Eventually got served by a polite but clearly overloaded clerk.
But you don’t have to put up with all the hassle that is CVS.
When I got that medicine, I went back up Barracks and Preston to Top Notch Pharmacy, which is locally owned and not corporate. I had called in a prescription Friday afternoon about 3. Just after 5 the same day I had a text to say it was ready. Picked it up Monday AM. One person in line ahead of me. Lots of people working in the store. Staff and customers all seemed to be in a pretty good mood. I recognized a lot of the staff as people I’d seen before.I don’t know what Top Notch is doing that CVS isn’t (and the nurse at my doctor says she’s hearing about less serious but similar problems at some of the grocery store pharmacies), but Top Notch has a well-trained and friendly staff and seems to do something right to retain them. The location and hours could be better. They don’t sell much besides drugs, so you have to run down the street for that quart of milk and bag of chips, but they handle drugs really well (and they deliver them).

Pharmacy – the employee who reluctantly (after 15 minutes on hold) answered the phone, mumbled so badly that I had to ask 3 times what he said.
This interaction happened at 3:30pm on Thursday and he said the medication (in stock) would be processed and filled by late morning the following day (Friday).
Friday *afternoon* comes around (4pm) and the medication still says in process (????). Glad it wasn’t something urgent.
By now I’m realizing that all of the previous google reviews were correct and not an exaggeration. I call another CVS to get the medication transferred to them, and she states that we unfortunately have to get ahold of the Emmett St location to take the medication off hold so she can fill it. We both sigh, and she tells me “yeah they don’t really answer their phone” (!!!!!).
You know it’s bad when another location confirms all of these horrendous reviews.
It took her and I both calling this location, both on hold for over ten minutes, to have the medication taken off hold.
Unless you have a lot of time to waste on your hands. DO NOT BOTHER coming here.
Do better CVS.By Ellen V (4 months ago)I wish I could give lower than one star. This CVS is horribly ran. I’ve had an issue almost every time I have to pick up or refill a prescription. I’ve been on hold for 40 minutes. The people don’t know how to use the computer and ask me like thirty times what my name is and what my birthday is. Occasionally the staff seem genuinely angry at me for needing my prescriptions. It feels like, me, wanting to pick up my daily medication that I need to live is apparently a nuisance. I get texts saying my prescription is ready to pick up and it almost never is. I tried to switch to CostCo but cvs would only allow them to fill 30 days and my medications are on opposite schedules. So I ran out of one every two weeks and had to go through begging CVS to give me my medication which makes me feel like a crazy person. I am already mentally ill and seriously feel like this is making me MORE mentally ill. Getting my medication should not be this difficult. These are just antidepressants and a mood stabilizer. I have never heard of anyone abusing Pristiq.. as it would do nothing for you. I take my medication as instructed but they make me feel like I’m doing straight crack. Can’t wait to have my brain chemistry ruined by running out of my medication yet again! So awesome!By mehkardboard (5 months ago)Do not try to get your vaccine booster at CVS. They have canceled 3 appointments it’s for me. All. All 3 appointments were canceled within one hour of the appointment time period the last appointment was canceled within 9 minutes of my appointment time period period the pharmacist claims they do not Have a way to track how many vaccines they have to meet the appointments that are scheduled periour scheduled. The pharmacist was completely unconcerned and told me to go back Online to make another appointment. Who. Who would make a 4th appointment it’s appointment after the 1st 3 were canceled canceled and after they admitted they don’t keep track of the vaccine supply in relean supply in relation to their vaccine appointments. Appointments. This place is horrible no one should use their businessBy Rebecca Lapensee (5 months ago)

Complete and utter incompetence of pharmacy staff. Was told the medication my asthmatic child needed that was sent by urgent care, was in stock. 5 mins later, the medication is magically “not in stock”. Pharmacist said he would send it to the one closest to my house and would be available for pick up on Monday. Today is Monday… now 4+ days later, my asthmatic child is getting worse and the meds were NEVER sent to the other CVS and were NEVER ordered. Coming from the Corporate side of the house for CVS, I always wondered why people had issues with the organization as a whole. Found out first hand and its disgraceful. Do better and be better CVS.By Amber Laughlin (5 months ago)Terrible pharmacy experience. No one seemed to know how to handle my prescription.
Two of the workers were tossing bags at each other while the cashier told me I needed to call my doctor for them to send over a prescription, which I didn’t need to do.
After finally getting some service, I was told my insurance didn’t cover the prescription because it wasn’t
prescription insurance, after showing them my card again, I finally got the prescription filled.Once arriving home, I realized the the prescription was filled incorrectly.
By Tyler Freeman (3 months ago)Barry is the BEST! The most genuine customer service one could ask for! Barry should be training store associates world-wide! Please consider Barry for any commercial opportunities-he’s a true gem!By Christina Weaver (a month ago)I never stopped by this branch for a prescription pickup except they pushed me for an hour to wait. I asked for the prescription to be moved from Pantops to Airport CVS. Next day I went to the one near airport, and they said it is in process at Pantops so we cannot transfer. Went to Pantops branch 4 hours later. They said it will be ready in 20 minutes. So I left and came an hour later. They said we need 15 minutes. so I waited for 20 minutes. and they finally told me we do not have the medicine. and neither does the other branches.. I will never use CVS againBy Mustafa Al Mukhtar (6 months ago)Understaffed and overworked. The drive-thru appears to be permanently closed. Prescriptions are rarely ready when you arrive. Called the phone in line and submitted refills through the automated service at 6:30 AM yesterday. The response said they would be ready by 11:00 AM yesterday. Arrived at 8:00 AM today and still had to wait 20 minutes for them to be filled.By Blaine Cosgro (3 months ago)

That’s it for our list of the best CVS in Charlottesville VA! If you have any arguments or additional information, please leave a comment. We love to hear from our readers too!
everyone in healthcare is working understaffed right now. i am in healthcare and i understand. however, the pharmacy tech truly made me lose faith in humanity. it is flurrying out and i refilled my prescription last night due to leaving my medicine out of town accidentally and went to pick it up today. i told the pharm tech that i was fully out of doses and was already experiencing withdrawal problems; she essentially said “not my problem, im going home” despite it being 12:30 and the pharmacy not closing early for another hour. it’s flurrying, none of us want to work but all of us healthcare workers are still going in, myself included…we know that we signed up to be essential workers. i was close to tears and explained the situation to the pharmacist who thankfully was able to fill my prescription within 15 minutes. such a hateful tech… looks like others have had similar experiences with her.
AVOID!!! I waited 15 minutes in the drive through to get my prescription . Finally, when it was my turn, I pulled up to the window and the metal gate started coming down and closed. No acknowledgement, no sign, nothing. I waited another 5 minutes or so thinking, “there is no way they just shut this window on me without saying hi, without saying sorry we are closed for lunch, without putting up a sign.”
After hitting the call button twice someone finally answered to tell me that “they were closed for lunch.” They had decided not to tell anyone, not to acknowledge that I had been waiting, and not even put up a sign.
When I expressed how utterly ridiculous that was, that the base level of human decency involves letting a customer know that you are closed, they replied, “there used to be a sign.”
THERE USED TO BE A SIGN!!!!!!!!!
It’s like all the decent employees have gone to other pharmacies and all that are left are people who decided this was reasonable. Just shut the door on them. I have never received such a treatment until today and frankly I never thought a pharmacy could make me this livid.
Clearly online reviews mean nothing to this CVS. I am writing a letter to corporate, and will be mailing it using a stamp. That is how fervently I recommend you avoid this pharmacy.
I had to fill a prescription quickly and I was a little worried given the negative reviews here. My prescription was filled in 15 minutes and the entire pharmacy team was kind, courteous and responsive. Thank you very much – we will come back here without hesitation! I really appreciate your professionalism and help!
Completely dysfunctional, I can’t believe they are allowed to operate in the manner they do. In the past week they have refused on arrival for my appointment to give a vaccine that they had approved earlier that day, rescheduled same vaccine for 3 days later with assurances they can administer and upon arrival they say they have no available staff to administer the scheduled vaccine, today after 23 minutes on hold on phone to notify them I was there in parking lot to pick up prescription – COVID positive picking up meds for COVID so I cant go inside – and they have closed the drive through and then the call was disconnected with a message saying ‘thanks for calling cvs, goodbye’. They also have their phones off, so when another pharmacy tried to have it transferred over, they couldn’t get through last night or today.
Called customer service again to deal with time it took to fill prescription and supplying additional pills not on prescription. Thankfully they weren’t a narcotic. Pharmacy and customer service deserve a negative 5 stars.
